In Pittsburgh this week the ginkgo bushes (Ginkgo biloba) started to drop their leaves. I discovered a cheerful yellow carpet below grey skies on Wednesday.
Different bushes lose their leaves progressively or within the wind, however ginkgos can drop them all of sudden on a single day of calm climate. I attempted to seize the “snowing” leaves on this 2017 video. Not very many.
@MyDailyNature does a greater job of displaying them fall together with sluggish movement.
Get out quickly to observe the ginkgos earlier than the leaves are gone.
p.s. Do you know that gingkos live fossils? Right here’s extra:
Native to East Asia, Ginkgo biloba is the final dwelling species within the order Ginkgoales, which first appeared over 290 million years in the past. Fossils similar to the dwelling species, belonging to the genus Ginkgo, prolong again to the Center Jurassic epoch roughly 170 million years in the past. The tree was cultivated early in human historical past and stays generally planted, and is broadly considered a dwelling fossil.
