There have been a number of hours of pleasure on New Years Day when a snowy owl confirmed up at Pymatuning. That very same day in Northampton County, PA Steve Magditch thought he too might have discovered a snowy owl however his digital camera lens revealed a standard fowl in unusual plumage, a leucistic red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis).
Brenda Lindsey was excited to seize these pictures on 4 January.
Leucistic Pink-tailed Hawk! I set out this morning to (perhaps) see it. (I can’t imagine I discovered it!) Thanks Steve Magditch and Kathleen Itterly Dimmich in your prior postings of this distinctive Fowl of Prey!
This white hawk known as leucistic, not albino, as a result of it has normal-colored eyes and at the very least one usually coloured feather. See the crimson feather(s) in its tail.

Although uncommon, leucistic red-tailed hawks happen all through their vary in North America with plenty of variation of their plumage. Some are noticed, some are blotchy.
