After the large push to seek out Pittsburgh’s winter crow flock for the Christmas Fowl Depend in late December I took a break and merely loved them. Looking and counting is tough work so I didn’t search for crows and if I noticed them I definitely didn’t depend them. Fortunately, you’ve been letting me know what you see.
Fred’s remark yesterday makes me surprise if crows are roosting on Downtown buildings.
Final Friday, 1/10/25, simply earlier than 7 am there have been 1000’s of crows flying round and roosted in bushes of the little park on First Ave downtown (throughout from PNC) and perched on all of the buildings round. Their collective cawing would have made dialog at regular ranges tough. Having seen related numbers in Oakland and Schenley within the early night, made me surprise in the event that they make the pre daybreak rally to city.
Frances and Sue point out crows may be tucked in throughout the river at Southside.
In current days I’ve famous them flying west to east over Southside Flats early within the morning (daybreak).
A lot of crows roosting on E Sycamore St in Mt. Washington, beginning about half-hour in the past (4:30pm).
Up to now two weeks I’ve seen crows flying east to west towards Schenley Park and the Hill District and staging briefly in Schenley earlier than nightfall.
So I put these 5 observations on a map. Orange is nightfall, pink is daybreak, the dots are staging areas.
Pittsburgh’s crows could have break up or moved their roost this month and I wouldn’t be stunned in the event that they did. Bitter chilly temperatures like final evening’s 7°F immediate crows to spend the evening on a heat rooftops quite than in naked bushes.
UPDATE: verify the feedback for added information on 15 Jan.
