14 July 2025, in Reykjavik, Iceland

Final night time we flew from Pittsburgh to Reykjavik on the primary leg of our journey to Finland. We may have modified planes at 6:30am GMT (2:30am EDT) and flown straight away to Helsinki however we determined to take a break for jet lag and keep one night time in Reykjavik, Iceland (backside left of this map).

“Evening” isn’t darkish right here. Reykjavik is up to now north that the solar rose right this moment at 3:38a GMT and units at 11:26pm for 19hr 47m of daylight. Our inner clocks assume that is only a very very lengthy day.

We’re staying within the coronary heart of downtown close to town’s oldest sq., very near the artwork museum and a ten minute stroll to eBird hotspot Tjörnin pond(*), pictured beneath.

I hope to see a number of the birds photographed at Tjörnin final month together with this pair of whooper swans …

… and a male Eurasian wigeon.

If I’d visited in early June I’d have seen this duckling who might be full grown now.

Tomorrow morning we fly to Helsinki — not very far, only a 3.5 hour flight.

(*) “Tjörnin” means “the pond” in Icelandic so calling it “Tjörnin pond” is redundant.
