17 April 2025
This week there may be a variety of exercise at our native peregrine nests, from pairs who started incubating simply 1-2 weeks in the past to our earliest hatch on the Tarentum Bridge. The massive occasion to observe for is Hatch Day on the Cathedral of Studying subsequent week.
Cathedral of Studying, Univ of Pittsburgh:
Ecco and Carla are nearing the top of incubation so one in all them is at all times on the nest 24×7. These days Ecco has been arriving earlier than daybreak for the primary nest trade of the day as proven at high on 12 April and on this morning’s video under.
Discover that Ecco makes delicate squeaky noises as he settles over the eggs this morning. It might be as a result of the chicks inside every egg are sufficiently old to listen to him and maybe reply.
Watch the Nationwide Aviary falconcam on the College of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Studying for Hatch Day subsequent week — a while between 22 and 25 April 2025. If you happen to observe them each day you’ll know that hatching is close to when Carla refuses to get off the eggs. Mom peregrines at all times preside on Hatch Day.
Sewickley Bridge, Ohio River:

feminine into nest field (yellow arrow), male leaving
Nice information on the Sewickley Bridge! Yesterday Jeff Cieslak confirmed that the pair is incubating when he witnessed a nest trade and captured pictures.
East Liberty Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh:
At this level it’s sure that incubation has begun although the precise date could also be exhausting to find out. On 8 April Adam Knoerzer reported on eBird with the picture above:
Feminine perched on exterior gentle fixture going through within the route of Shadyside/Oakland. Male seen whereas shuffling/readjusting egg(s) throughout incubation.
Tarentum Bridge, Allegheny River:

They’ve hatched! Dave Brooke reviews the feminine was feeding younger within the nestbox on 12 April although the chicks have been too tiny to see above the sting of the field. Fairly quickly there shall be good views from these vantage factors.
SUMMARY FOR SOUTHWEST PA:
All potential and current peregrine websites are listed within the desk under BUT YOU HAVE TO SCROLL TO SEE THEM. Information is sketchy to non-existent at most websites. For example, I checked for incubation Downtown on Tuesday 15 April and noticed nothing.
Assist fill within the blanks by visiting a website close to you. Go away a remark in case you discover something!
