23 September 2025

Cooler climate forward! Let’s get outdoor.

Be a part of me for a chicken & nature stroll in Schenley Park on Sunday, 28 September 2025, 8:30a – 10:30a(*). We’ll meet at Bartlett Shelter on Bartlett Avenue.

Forbes and Fifth Avenues might be closed for the Pittsburgh Nice Race so plan your route accordingly. See street closure data beneath.

I count on to see blue jays, chipmunks and porcelainberry fruit. Additionally …

I’m hoping for a number of species from BirdCast’s late September Anticipated Migrant Listing for Allegheny County:

  • Jap Wooden-Pewee
  • Swainson’s Thrush
  • Blackburnian Warbler
  • Black-throated Inexperienced Warbler
  • Least Flycatcher
  • Philadelphia Vireo
  • Chestnut-sided Warbler
  • Rose-breasted Grosbeak
  • Inexperienced Heron
  • Ovenbird
  • Grey-cheeked Thrush
  • American Redstart
  • Black-throated Blue Warbler
  • Nashville Warbler

Costume for the climate and put on comfy strolling sneakers. Convey binoculars and subject guides when you’ve got them. NOTE that re-construction of the Serpentine Highway retaining wall has modified the panorama and compelled a restricted path closure. If the group is just not too giant we’ll stroll the creek mattress path.

Go to my Occasions web page earlier than you are available case of adjustments or cancellations.

(*) If the birding is immediately good at 10:30am we’ll have the choice to proceed to 11a.

Barricades might be arrange all through town to clear the race route which stretches alongside Forbes Avenue from Frick Park in Squirrel Hill to Morewoood Avenue at Carnegie Mellon (Morewood is the Forbes to Fifth connector). It then makes use of Fifth Avenue via Oakland and the Boulevard of the Allies into Downtown, ending at Level State Park.

Approximate closure occasions are as follows:

  • Zone A (inexperienced): Forbes at Beechwood Blvd to Forbes at Morewood: 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. That is the place the 10K run begins at 9:30am

Since I dwell north of Fifth I’m going to maneuver my automobile south of Forbes early within the morning so I can get to Bartlett.
