Vibrant reds and oranges graced the sky and the forest in Pittsburgh this week.

Our area is within the midst of an oak-hickory forest so red-colored leaves could be scarce. Oaks flip darkish crimson after most different bushes are naked and hickories flip yellow, so I stay up for the second when our few sugar maples flip crimson. It occurred this week in Schenley Park, as you’ll be able to see beneath.

Two deer browsed close to Schenley’s Higher Path. One is already in her grey winter coat however so near the path that her camouflage didn’t matter. I’d have missed the opposite deer (yellow arrow) besides that it moved.

Chilly temperatures have ended this yr’s noticed lanternflies so I used to be stunned to see one on the Panther Hole Bridge. The air was so chilly that didn’t transfer as I approached. Hah! I see you.

p.s. Mary Kate jogged my memory that sweetgum bushes are very fairly within the fall. I’ll attempt to get some photos this coming week.
