Throughout this week’s temporary and lovely heat climate I believed it was spring and took photographs of attention-grabbing crops at Beechwood Farms. Again residence I see that they’re wintry weeds and timber with solely a touch of what’s to return.
Goldenrod, above, has not but launched its fluffy seeds to the wind.
I used to be fascinated by the yellow bark on these maple-family twigs. Is it field elder …?

Sure. The yellow bark threw me off however the reverse buds and inexperienced bark on older branches are each traits of field elder (Acer negundo).

The thriller leaves, beneath, required my plant identification device however the reply was unsatisfying and doubtless mistaken. Dame’s rocket (Hesperis matronalis)? I doubt Beechwood would have left such an invasive plant in place.

Nonetheless, the device pointed me to a video about consuming Dame’s rocket (Hesperis matronalis) within the spring. Nice thought! This plant is invasive. (Within the video it’s known as wild phlox. Perhaps a Canadian widespread identify for it.)
Talking of edible crops, a number of components of burdock are edible and the roots could be eaten 12 months spherical.

Dig it up and eat it. This plant is invasive. Learn extra earlier than you dig –> Northern Woodlands Burdock: A Meals That Will Actually Seize You.
