Three Peregrine Chicks Banded at Pitt Yesterday

After yesterday morning’s downpour, three wholesome chicks have been banded on the Cathedral of Studying peregrine nest. Two look a lot bigger than the third and their weight confirmed it: Two females and one male.

Each dad and mom, Carla and Ecco, have skilled Banding Day in prior years so that they knew what was coming once they heard us speaking indoors. Carla circled forward of time and watched us by the blinds. Quickly the PA Sport Fee’s Patti Barber retrieved, banded, and weighed the chicks whereas Carla and Ecco continued their vigil. The chicks have been returned to the nest inside half an hour. Listed below are the highlights:

Usually I take a variety of images in the course of the occasion and weblog about it on the afternoon of Banding Day however my palms have been busy on the banding. Patti requested me to carry the chicks whereas she banded them, a brand new expertise for me. Images at high and under.

For ease of identification on digicam, Patti Barber put coloured tape on the chicks’ USFW bands.

  • First feminine = Yellow
  • Second feminine = Blue
  • The smallest chick is Male = Inexperienced
